Tim Bogert (born August 27, 1944 in New York City , † January 13, 2021 ) was an American bassist and singer . He became known as a member of the rock bands Vanilla Fudge , Cactus and Beck, Bogert & Appice .

biography

At the age of eight, Bogert took piano lessons. In New Jersey , he founded the band The Belltones with friends , in which he played the saxophone . The Belltones became The Chessmen, who also performed in New York. Bogert switched from saxophone to bass.

After finishing school, Bogert went on tour with Rick Martin & the Showmen . He got to know Mark Stein with whom he founded The Pigeons . They recorded an album, after which they called themselves Vanilla Fudge .

Vanilla Fudge consisted of Mark Stein (keyboard), Vince Martell (guitar), Carmine Appice (drums) and Tim Bogert (bass). Their first single, You Keep Me Hangin 'On , was a worldwide success. From 1967 to 1969, Vanilla Fudge recorded five albums, then Bogert and Appice left the group and formed Cactus .

In 1972 Cactus broke up, but Bogert and Appice stayed together. Together with Jeff Beck , they founded the much-acclaimed trio Beck, Bogert & Appice (BBA).

In the years after BBA, Bogert lived and played in California, England and Italy. He played among other things. with Rod Stewart , Bo Diddley and Rick Derringer . In 1983 there was a reunion of Vanilla Fudge.

The debut album by X-Japan guitarist Pata was released in 1993 , with Bogert playing bass alongside singer James Christian, drummer Tommy Aldridge ( Thin Lizzy , formerly Whitesnake ) and keyboardist Daisuke Hinata. He also took part in the accompanying tour of Japan.

Tim Bogert worked as a bass teacher at the Musician's Institute in Hollywood for eighteen years . In 1999 he was inducted into the Hollywood Rock Walk of Fame . At the end of the same year there was a new power trio, Char, Bogert & Appice (CBA) with the Japanese guitarist Char . This was followed in 2001 by the trio Derringer, Bogert & Appice with Rick Derringer .

Tim Bogert died in January 2021 at the age of 76.
