Timothy L. "Tim" Reid (born December 19, 1944 in Norfolk , Virginia ) is an American actor , director , producer and screenwriter .

Life

Reid studied business administration at Norfolk State College and received his bachelor's degree in 1968 . He then worked in marketing at DuPont for a few years . His acting career began in the mid-1970s. He first appeared in guest roles on some television series such as the sitcoms Rhoda and Maude . In 1978 he got the role of Venus Flytrap in the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati , which he played in 87 episodes until 1982. In 1983 he played Michael Horne in the second season of the sitcom Teachers Only . He gained fame among German-speaking television audiences through his role as Detective Marcel "Downtown" Brown in the series Simon & Simon between 1983 and 1987 and in the 1995 television film based on the series. He left the series for the title role in the sitcom Frank's Place to take over. However, this was discontinued after the end of the first season. He then had recurring guest roles in Highlander and The Wild Seventies . In addition to his acting roles, Reid wrote episode scripts for some of the series in which he starred. He also works as a director and film and television producer.

Reid is married for the second time. The first marriage had two children.
