Live and act
Tinka Bechert grew up in Berlin and received her first artistic education at home, which has been shaped by several generations of artists and scientists. The relationship with the Berlin painter couple Sabine and Reinhold Lepsius , the Egyptologist Karl Richard Lepsius and the painter Max Ernst were not only considered an inspiration to the artist from an early age, but later also a material for her artistic projects. Her keen interest in science and architecture was awakened by her father and scientist (physics & bionics) Dietrich Wolfgang Bechert and her uncle Eckhard Schulze-Fielitz (architect). After graduating from Beethoven High School and traveling long distances in Central America and Western Europe, Tinka Bechert studied art in the north-west of Ireland, where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the Institute of Technology in Sligo in 2003 with the highest distinction. Seven years later she added the Master of Visual Arts Practice at the Institute of Art & Design in Dublin, Ireland.
The visual artist's work focuses on painting, collage and installation. Even artists' books are among her expressions; In 2004 she realized her first literary project ( Chinese knife ) with Edition Mariannenpresse Berlin and the writer Eckardt Momber . Further connections of her work with literary forms of expression emerged with the writers Emil Mündlein ( Eine Spur im Strom ) and the Berlin poet Björn Kuhligk , who deals with Bechert's work in various texts.
In addition to numerous international exhibitions of her painting, the artist has carried out ambitious research and science projects, including with the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW) and the Hanse Science College in Delmenhorst. She has received numerous project grants and grants from the Irish Arts Council Of Ireland, such as a residence grant at the Banff Center (2007), a travel grant for her triangulation project with a stay in Egypt (2010) and a six-month grant Spark Residency Program of the County Leitrim Arts Office, Ireland (2016/17). In 2016, Tinka Bechert's works were shortlisted for the Derwent Art Prize and the Jackson Art Prize in England. She received an Art Prize in Ireland in 2017 for Outstanding Achievement in Art.
Tinka Bechert's works are represented in public and private collections in Brazil, Canada, Germany, Austria, Ireland and Great Britain, for example in the Office of Public Works, Ireland, in the Berlin State Library , in the National Art Library of the Victoria & Albert Museum , London, and Tate Britain , London. She lives and works in Ireland and Berlin.
