Tinwald is a town in the Scottish Council Area Dumfries and Galloway . It is located around seven kilometers northeast of Dumfries and twelve kilometers west of Lochmaben .
history
There was once a moth in Tinwald . Its 2.5 m high hill with a hilltop area of around 17 m × 10 m only allowed a small fortification to be built.
The merchant, politician and founder of the Bank of England , William Paterson was born in Tinwald in 1658. In 1740 that made Lord Advocate and politician Charles Erskine, Lord Tinwald approximately 1.5 km southeast of the mansion Tinwald House building. The Scottish architect William Adam was responsible for the design of the classical building . Today it is classified as a monument of the highest category A. The Presbyterian Tinwald Parish Church was established in 1765.

Tinwald is connected to the westbound A701 ( Edinburgh –Dumfries) via a short side road. Around four kilometers to the south, it joins the A75 ( Stranraer - Gretna ).
