Tiny Kahn (actually Norman Kahn , * 1924 in New York City , † August 19, 1953 in Martha's Vineyard ) was an American drummer , composer and arranger of swing and modern jazz .

Kahn played the harmonica at the age of six , drums at fifteen and at the beginning of his career he worked with Lester Young at the end of 1947 ( The Complete Aladdin Recordings of Lester Young ), with Georgie Auld , Boyd Raeburn and Chubby Jackson (1949), with Stan Getz (1951), Elliot Lawrence also as a vibraphonist (1953). He also worked as arranger ( Over the Rainbow for Charlie Barnet ), Tiny's Blues and Father Knickerbopper for Chubby Jackson (1949) and Leo the Lion forWoody Herman (1951). For the Big Band of Chubby Jackson with Gerry Mulligan he was also responsible as the composer of the titles Sax Appeal, Flying the Coop and Why Not . During his short career, Kahn was also involved in the recordings of Serge Chaloff , Al Cohn , Red Rodney , Lester Young, the Kai Winding All Stars and Wardell Gray . He died of a heart attack while vacationing in Martha's Vineyard .
