Tiny Wings is an iOS game by the German developer Andreas Illiger, which was developed for the iPhone , iPod touch and later also for iPad and Apple TV .

Game concept

Tiny Wings is designed as a single player game, but the Game Center can also be used to compare high scores with friends or globally with other players.

In the game, the player takes control of a green bird, which can barely cover long distances due to its overweight and too short wings. The bird has to be led through a landscape of hills, of which it should overcome as many as possible. He only has so long until the sun goes down and the bird then falls asleep. He uses the hills of the landscape as ramps to gain momentum and slide as far as possible. Thanks to the simple controls, the player can make the bird "heavier" by pressing the screen, so that it gets momentum while it glides down a hill. By deliberately letting go of the screen, the bird becomes "lighter" again and can now glide up the next hill more quickly and even be made to fly. The aim of the game is to cross as many islands as possible before the time - symbolized by the setting sun - has run out.

In the free update to version 2.0 (mid-July 2012), the “flight school” mode was implemented in addition to a newly designed menu. In this it is possible to choose one of the birds Owell, Peli, Peck or Flami and compete in races against the remaining three, now controlled by the computer. In addition to the three worlds "Clown Islands", "Koi Islands" and "Orca Islands", which are each divided into five individual islands, additional worlds have already been confirmed by further updates.

development

In addition to the update to version 2.0 for the original Tiny Wings , the separate Tiny Wings HD app was also released in the App Store on July 13, 2012 . This app, specially designed for the iPad, offers the features of the original app and an increased resolution for the retina display of the iPad 3 . In addition, a multiplayer mode is also included, in which two players can compete against each other in split-screen according to the principle of the flight school mode.

After the update to version 2.2 on December 1, 2016, Tiny Wings can also be played on the Apple TV .

reception

Tiny Wings appeared in the App Store in February 2011 and was ranked number one among the best-selling apps in 49 countries. Of Apple , it was awarded in Europe as iPhone game of 2011.

"Tiny Wings is an all-round lovable game: [...] The music is wonderfully relaxed, the controls are easy."
