Titanates

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As titanates are the salts or esters of titanic acids (H x Ti y O z , in practice, the various hydrates of titanium dioxide ), respectively. These are mainly the salts of orthotitanic acid (H 4 TiO 4 ), with the corresponding meta- and peroxotitanic acids or titanates occurring in addition to these orthotitanates. They can be viewed as mixed oxides .

Titanates are used as ceramic materials (for example lead zirconate titanate and barium strontium titanate Ba x Sr 1-x TiO 3 for piezo elements and ceramic capacitors ). Many form ion crystals with a perovskite structure with ferroelectric properties .

Some titanates also occur naturally as titanium minerals , such as perovskite , barioperovskite , macedonite , ilmenite , geikielite , pyrophanite , tauonite and others.

Barium titanate (BaTiO 3 ) and lead titanate (PbTiO 3 ) are white or yellow powders and are used as pigments in addition to their ferroelectric properties . Strontium titanate (SrTiO 3 ) is a ceramic compound with very special properties in the form of plastic behavior, which is used as a gemstone and superconductor . Potassium titanate (K 2 Ti 6 O 13 ) can be used as an artificial mineral fiber. In addition, still aluminum titanate (Al 2 TiO 5 ), lanthanum titanate , bismuth titanate (Bi 2 Ti 2 O 7 ), calcium titanate (CaTiO 3 ), Certitanat (CeTiO 4 ), cobalt titanate (CoTiO 3 ), magnesium titanate (MgTiO 3 ), Lithiumhexafluortitanat (CAS Number: 21729-09-9) and others known. Organic titanates also exist. Examples are tetramethyl , tetrabutyl , tetraisopropyl titanate , tetraphenyl titanate , Dibutyltriethanolamintitanat , Tetrahexyltitanat and tetraalkyl .
