The Titania Verlag is an established in 1949 children's book publisher based in Frankish-Crumbach . The publisher is named after Titania , the elf queen from Shakespeare's Midsummer Night 's Dream .

history

The publishing house emerged from the Leipzig publishing house Lange & Meuche , which was founded on December 1, 1911 by the two booksellers Ernst Heinrich Curt Lange (1876–1952) and Paul Meuche. The Titania-Verlag was founded in 1949 after moving from Leipzig to Stuttgart in the footsteps of the associated publisher Anton & Co. Ferdinand Schroll, the son of Ernst Lange, in Stuttgart re-established. He had already been active as an authorized signatory in the Lange & Meuche publishing house from 1934, which developed into a purely commercial book and magazine group from 1920 through acquisitions by other publishers and thus survived the Nazi and war times, not always to the benefit of the people Party organizations.

Titania Verlag remained in family ownership for over 50 years and was managed by Wolfgang (1942–2005) and Gerdi Schroll (* 1934). After his brother's death, Gerdi Schroll sold the publishing house, which was taken over by Terzio Verlag as the majority shareholder on January 1, 2007 and by Mathias Berg . The headquarters of the publishing house changed to Königstein im Taunus  and later to Munich .

On August 11, 2011 Terzio sold his shares (74.9%) in Edition XXL , while Mathias Berg kept his stake. The headquarters of the publishing house was relocated to Fränkisch-Crumbach .

program

Even after the re-establishment in 1949, the most important artists were the illustrator Fritz Baumgarten with his classic picture books and the author Magda Trott with the girls' book series Pucki . The authors also include Helge Darnstädt , who also published under several pseudonyms in the publishing house.

The former program for adults included novels by the local poet Hans Ernst and novels by Frieda Runge .
