Titilayo Adedokun

Titilayo Rachel Adedokun (* 1973 in Nashville , Tennessee ) is an American singer ( soprano ) and former beauty queen . She has appeared in numerous operatic roles in Italy and around the world and has also recorded or participated in several jazz albums.

Life

Adedokun grew up as the daughter of Nigerian immigrants in the United States. Her father was a pastor and holds a doctorate in theologian, so she grew up with church music from an early age. She is a graduate of the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, where she studied singing. She also studied classical singing in Italy. There she also worked with the jazz pianist and composer Giorgio Gaslini .

Participation in Miss elections in the USA

Adedokun was friends with a teacher at Judson College in Marion, Alabama, who persuaded her to enter a beauty pageant. At the first competition in Marion, Alabama, she was far behind. Adedokun found this decision "very racist" and competed in other competitions up to the Miss Alabama , in which she was fifth in 1990. Thereupon she was elected " Miss Ohio " in another competition in 1993 and later came third in the Miss America election in 1994. Adedokun was able to finance a vocal training in Italy with the award for this award.

Move to Germany

In 2002 she was engaged for the first time in Germany, she performed at the Gut Immling Festival . The following year she was given the role of Giulietta in Hoffmann's stories in Germany . Adedokun has lived in Munich since 2004, where she married and had three children. To mark the centenary of Verdi's death, she sang the title role in Franco Zeffirelli's production of Aida at the Teatro Verdi in Busseto .

Opera roles

Adedokun played roles in La Bohème , Carmen , Hoffmanns Erzählungen , Die Zauberflöte , Porgy and Bess and Boccaccio . She performed in the USA, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Russia and Hungary. In 2008 she was in a touring performance of Kiss Me, Kate in various cities in Germany .

Performances in Munich

Since 2009 Adedokun has performed regularly at the Munich swings festival, among others . Some of their songs were recorded in Yoruba .
