Titular Diocese of California

California is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .

It goes back to an earlier bishopric in the historic California landscape that existed from 1840 to 1849. The area included parts of what is now the United States of America and Mexico . As a suffragan, it was under the Archdiocese of Mexico .
