William John Waltersheid (born November 18, 1956 in Ashland ) is auxiliary bishop in Pittsburgh .

Life

The only son of William F. and Margaret M. Waltersheid grew up in Locust Gap and initially completed a nursing training at the Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing . From 1985 he studied at St. John Seminary College in Brighton (Massachusetts) and from 1988 at the "Pontifical North America College" in Rome.

The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education , Pio Cardinal Laghi , ordained him a deacon on April 30, 1992, and the Bishop of Harrisburg , Nicholas Carmen Dattilo , ordained him a priest on July 11, 1992 .

In 1993 he obtained a degree in dogmatics from the Pontifical Gregorian University and stayed in Rome until 1995 for further studies. After pastoral work as a chaplain in Steelton, Pennsylvania , he returned to the Pontifical North American College in Rome in 1999, where he became vice-rector after a year. He returned to the United States in the summer of 2003 and became a pastor in Carlisle, Pennsylvania . In 2006, Bishop Kevin Carl Rhoades named him Secretary for the Clergy and Consecrated Life in the Diocese of Harrisburg.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on February 25, 2011 auxiliary bishop in Pittsburgh and titular bishop of California . The Bishop of Pittsburgh, David Zubik , ordained him episcopal on April 25 of that year ; Co-consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Daniel Edward Thomas and Joseph Patrick McFadden from Philadelphia . As a motto he chose Ecce Mater Tua .
