Titular diocese of Heraclea Pontica
Heraclea Pontica ( Italian : Eraclea Pontica ) is a titular bishopric of the Roman Catholic Church .
The city of Herakleia Pontike , located in Asia Minor and founded as a Greek colony , was a bishopric in late antiquity , for which no Catholic bishop can be proven since the Synod of Constantinople that took place in 867 and which was lost as a result of the Oriental schism . The diocese, located in the Roman province of Honorias , was a suffragan bishopric under canon law that belonged to the ecclesiastical province of Claudiopolis and was subordinate to the metropolitan there . One of the better known bishops was Eusebius of Heraclea, who reigned towards the end of the 4th century .
Today the city is called Bender Ereğli or Karadeniz Ereğli and is located in Turkey .
