Tivoli Bridge (Vienna)
The Tivoli Bridge is a bridge in Vienna that connects the 12th district of Meidling and the 13th district of Hietzing . It leads over Grünbergstrasse and connects Hohenbergstrasse - extending it in a straight line - with Schönbrunn Palace Park and the Gloriette . Since the bridge was built on behalf of Maria Theresa , it is also known under the name Maria Theresien-Brücke .
history
In 1777 the brick-built bridge was built to bridge a moat. It was decorated with sphinxes at both ends . The bridge was completely rebuilt from 1962, but the statues have been preserved. In September 1963 the bridge was opened to traffic. Since there is a general driving ban in the park of Schönbrunn Palace - to protect the historic park with only water-bound road surfaces, also for cyclists - the bridge is mostly only used by pedestrians, but parking spaces for disabled people's vehicles are marked on the south-facing edge of the road. The name comes from the Tivoli amusement park that used to exist next door .
