Tiziana J. Chiusi

Tiziana J. Chiusi (* in Rome ) is an Italian law scholar and university professor .

Life

She studied law at the universities of La Sapienza, Freiburg im Breisgau and Munich . After completing her law degree in Rome (1982), she completed her notary training there . At the same time, she completed the postgraduate course in Roman Law and the Rights of the Ancient Orient (Scuola di Perfezionamento in Diritto Romano e Diritti dell'Antico Oriente Mediterraneo) at the University of La Sapienza (1984). She worked as a research assistant at La Sapienza University, where she did her doctorate in Roman law with a thesis on civil litigation (1987). From 1992 to 2001 she worked as a research assistant or senior assistant at the University of Munich , where she qualified as a professor ( venia legendi for the subjects of civil law , Roman law, modern private law history and comparative law ) with a thesis on Roman enrichment law (1999). After being represented at Saarland University (2000) and Tübingen (2000/2001), she has held the chair for civil law, Roman law and European comparative law at the Faculty of Law and Economics at Saarland University since 2001 .

Her main research interests are civil law, Roman law and comparative law.

In addition to her work as a reviewer, expert and editor, her lecturing work should be mentioned, which extends to Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain, Israel and Japan. She is visiting professor at the University of the Basque Country and the University of Catania .

Between 2008 and 2019 she was co-director of the Institute for European Law alongside her colleague Michael Martinek . She has been its sole director since March 2019. She is also the faculty's international representative and the director of the faculty's library. From 2010 she was a member of the founding board of directors of the Europa-Kolleg at Saarland University (CEUS); From 2012 to 2018 she was the managing director of the CEUS. From 2012 to 2016 she was a member of the University Council of Saarland University; since 2012 she has been a member of the standing committee of the German Law Faculty Conference; in June 2017 she was elected as deputy chairwoman of the German Law Faculty Conference (DJFT). In 2018 she was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Ivane Javakhishvili State University of Tbilisi (TSU). She has been the current dean of the Law Faculty of Saarland University since 2018.
