Tlapa was a renowned fashion house in Vienna . It closed at the end of January 2016.

Wenzel Tlapa, a civil and military tailor from Bohemia , opened in 1873 at Himberger Strasse 27, which is what Favoritenstrasse was then called in the 10th district, a small bespoke tailoring shop that remained a small master craftsman's business for seven decades. In 1921 the company was taken over by the founder's son, Karl Tlapa.

In 1942 Karl Vitaly (1912–2003) joined the company and in 1945 passed the master craftsman examination. In 1946 company owner Hilde Zafouk appointed him managing director, in 1947 she left the company to him on an annuity. The business, which was badly damaged during the Second World War, was expanded under his leadership to a company with 250 employees. Towards the end of the 1960s, the building in Favoritenstrasse 73-75, corner of Landgutgasse, was moved into.

The advertising media included Hans Krankl , among others , TV presenters and the SK Rapid Wien players were dressed privately by Tlapa, and companies such as Blaguss , EVN , OMV and Swarovski were given uniforms.

Karl Vitaly was made an honorary citizen of the City of Vienna in 1992. He died on April 19, 2003. In 2011, Vitalygasse was named.

Managing Director Norbert Disper led the company back into the black in 2010 after three years of losses. In December 2014, grandson Carlo Vitaly took over the company from the Karl Vitaly Private Foundation.

Due to high losses and debts, it was announced in summer 2015 that the company would be closed in January 2016 after over half of the workforce had already been laid off in April 2015. The closure took place at the end of January 2016.
