Tobias Kehrer

Tobias Kehrer (born in Dessau ) is a German opera singer with a bass voice . He is a guest at major opera houses and at the Salzburg Festival .

Life

Kehrer completed his vocal training at the Berlin University of the Arts with Siegfried Lorenz in February 2011. During his studies he gained his first stage experience in studio productions and in 2008 was the only German to take part in the opera competition of the Kyoto International Music Students Festival . In 2009 he took on several roles at the Kurt Weill Festival in Dessau in a production of Karl Amadeus Hartmann's wax museum . Further engagements followed at the Chemnitz Opera House , at the Aalto Theater in Essen and as Hunding in the first act of Walküre at the Orquesta de Valencia . In the 2011/12 season, the singer received the Franz Josef Weisweiler Scholarship from the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

Kehrer made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in 2012 as Truffaldin in Hofmannsthal / Strauss ' Ariadne auf Naxos , sang there in 2013 the night watchman in the Meistersinger von Nürnberg and in concert the Jacobus von Arc in Braunfels' Jeanne d'Arc , and in 2014 the police commissioner in Harry Kupfers Rosenkavalier - New production and the bass solo in Bruckner's Te Deum under Philippe Jordan .

Kehrer has been a member of the Deutsche Oper Berlin ensemble since the 2012/13 season . There he sings, among others, Sarastro and Masetto , Basilio in Barber of Seville and Sparafucile in Rigoletto , Jacopo Loredano in Foscari and Mönch in Don Carlos , Zuniga in Carmen and Lieutenant Ratcliffe in Billy Buddies . In the 2013/14 season he was seen and heard as Brander in a new production of Berlioz ' La damnation de Faust under Donald Runnicles . Kehrer also sang at the London Proms . In October 2014 he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York as Sarastro . At the Glyndebourne Festival in 2015 he sang the role of Osmin.
