Life

After graduating from the Extended Secondary School Geschwister Scholl Freiberg in 1978, he studied chemistry from 1980 to 1985 at the University of Leipzig (specializing in physical and theoretical chemistry ). In 1985 he became a qualified chemist in Leipzig at the Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry with Joachim Finster on "Determination of ESCA sensitivity factors for the quantitative surface analysis of III ‑ V semiconductors". From 1985 to 1994 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Physical and Theoretical Chemistry, AK Armin Meisel , University of Leipzig. From 1985 to 1989 he was an aspirant at the Kurnakov Institute for General and Inorganic Chemistry, Moscow, under VI Nefedov. The Dr. rer. nat. he acquired in 1988 at the Kurnakov Institute for General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow under VI Nefedov on “Determination of parameters for the quantitative surface analysis of solids with the help of photoelectron spectroscopy”. From 1991 to 1994 he was a postdoctoral scholar at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Chemical Sciences Division and at the Pennsylvania State University , Departments of Physics and Chemistry with David A. Shirley . From 1994 to 2002 he headed the department “Synchrotron Radiation Applications” in the Institute for Radiochemistry of the FZR , responsible for the radiochemistry measuring station at the Rossendorf synchrotron beam tube ROBL at the ESRF in Grenoble (1998–2001). From 2001 to 2002 he headed the “ESRF Beamline” project group at the Rossendorf Research Center (FZR). Since 2002 he has been a university professor (C3) for nuclear chemistry at the Institute for Nuclear Chemistry at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz .
