Tobias Santelmann

Tobias Santelmann (born August 8, 1980 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German- born Norwegian actor . He gained fame through the role of Knut Haugland in the Oscar-nominated film Kon-Tiki .

life and career

Tobias Santelmann was born the son of a German in Freiburg im Breisgau , from where his parents moved with him to the southwest of Norway when he was one year old. He grew up there in the Lindesnes community before moving to Oslo when he was 16 . At the age of 18 he decided to want to become an actor, having previously worked as a musician and soccer player. His first roles were limited to theater productions.

In 2006 Santelmann graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts , which he has been attending since 2002. Before that, it took three attempts to get one of the few places at the renowned institution. Over a period of six years he had an engagement with the Norwegian State Theater. Since 2010 Santelmann has also been involved in predominantly Norwegian film and television productions. In 2012 he took on the role of Knut Haugland in the film Kon-Tiki . The film received positive reviews and was nominated for an Oscar for best foreign language film. Santelmann took on other roles in Flukt and Jeg er Den .

Since 2014 he has been playing increasingly in international productions. He was seen in the film Hercules alongside Dwayne Johnson . A year later he played the role of the chowder in Point Break and was also seen in a small role in the series Homeland . From 2015 to 2018 he also starred in the series The Last Kingdom . In the Norwegian-German co-production Der Grenzgänger , broadcast on Sky in 2017 , Santelmann played the leading role of investigator Nikolai Andreassen .

He has a daughter with his wife Jennifer Braathen. Besides Norwegian, Santelmann speaks fluent German and English.
