action

Johnny Utah is an extreme athlete and YouTube star. When his friend and partner Jeff falls to his death on a mountain ridge while performing a daring maneuver with motorcycles, Utah blames itself for it and leaves the industry. Seven years later he made up his law degree and is training to be an FBI agent. At the same time, a diamond robbery is being carried out on the 100th floor of a skyscraper in Mumbai , in which the criminals drive motorbikes through the windows of the skyscraper, land with parachutes and escape. They are giving away the diamonds worth 100 million US dollars to the poor in the slums. Shortly afterwards, a US transport plane was attacked in the airspace over Mexico , with the criminals jumping off with banknotes worth several million US dollars, scattering the money in the wind and then disappearing into a large cave .

Utah investigates and comes to the conclusion that both crimes were carried out by the same people and that a third is also their account: a month ago a logging plant in the Congo was burned down, with the perpetrators fleeing over the rapids of the Livingstone Falls, which are considered impassable are. A few days before the Mumbai attack, they were photographed base jumping from Mount Everest . Therefore, Utah is convinced that the gang is eager to survive the legendary Osaki 8 in the scene . These are eight ultimate trials that environmental activist Ono Osaki has used to challenge extreme sports enthusiasts around the world to harness the forces of nature to honor the forces of nature and achieve enlightenment. The gang has now completed three of the tests, and Utah predicts they will try the fourth on a rare ocean wave phenomenon off the coast of France . Hall, his boss, leaves the case to him, and the experienced agent Pappas supports him from now on.

When Utah nearly drowns in the dangerous surf ride, he is rescued by Bodhi, the leader of the wanted gang. After an acceptance ritual, a fist fight with Bodhi in a remote Paris train station, he becomes part of Bodhi's team. These are Roach, Chowder, and Grommet, as well as samsara that he falls in love with. They travel to the Alps for the fifth test, with the four of them climbing a mountain and speeding down into the valley on a daring course in their wingsuits . Utah is slowly gaining the trust of others. The next day, they climb a snow-capped peak for the sixth test, which is to ski down a steep wall on snowboards . Utah drives ahead and the others follow him. However, the Chowder slips and has a fatal accident. Utah is beginning to have doubts about the philosophy of life of his new friends, who see death only as an important step in the transition to nirvana . In the evening he gets closer to samsara. When he reports to Pappas the next day, Pappas accuses him of being on the wrong track and having fun at the FBI's expense.

In Italy they drive to a mine where Bodhi wants to make his sacrifice to nature. He explains that they want to give back to the earth some of the things that have been torn from it. Therefore he wants to use explosives to trigger a landslide over a column of trucks loaded with valuable gold ore. Utah reveals himself as an FBI agent and tries to prevent Bodhi from being blown up. However, he triggers the detonation and flees downhill on a motorcycle, pursued by Utah. He can catch Bodhi, but then lets him slip away because he cannot bring himself to shoot him. Before that, Bodhi reveals that he had already seen through Utah in Paris, but had hoped to get him to his side. The FBI then freezes Bodhi's sponsor's assets, whereupon the gang rob a remote bank in the mountains to raise funds. Utah and the Carabinieri intercept the group, and Roach is killed in the crossfire. When the other gangsters flee, Utah hunts down and shoots the supposed Bodhi, who, however, turns out to be samsara when the helmet is removed.

Utah can convince Hall that Bodhi will take the seventh test at the highest waterfall in Venezuela : the mountain must be climbed without aids . With Pappas' help he arrives shortly after Bodhi and Grommet at the foot of the mountain and pursues them up the wall. Grommet loses his strength and lets himself fall into the depths. Utah catches up with Bodhi at the summit, but he jumps down from the waterfall and passes the eighth test. Utah falls behind and survives, but Bodhi's body is never found. Utah is then admitted to the FBI.

17 months later, Utah found him in the Pacific , as Bodhi had to abandon the fourth exam because of Utah's rescue and now wants to repeat it. Utah finally lets him surf the giant wave as they both know he won't be back. From the helicopter, Utah watches as Bodhi is engulfed in the wave.

Reviews

“Anyone who knows the action thriller 'Point Break - Dangerous Surf' can skip the free remake by director and cameraman Ericson Core. The exciting and fast-paced drama about surfing, trust and betrayal with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze has turned into a breathless trip for extreme sports enthusiasts who flatten the Alps and other mountain ranges for their passion. "

- Hans Gerhold : Westphalian news

“Alas, the new Point Break doesn't indulge in fan-service so much as nostalgia strip-mining, thoughtlessly gobbling up iconic scenes from Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 original and regurgitating them into a fetid slurry of soullessly re-contextualized soundbites and empty callbacks. ”

"Unfortunately, the new Point Break spoils less with fan service than with nostalgic open-cast mining. The film thoughtlessly devours cult scenes from Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 original and vomits them as stinking manure, soulless catchphrases put in new context and empty return campaigns."

- Ben Coleman : The Portland Mercury
