The death bar is a partially snow-covered and 5 km long mountain ridge in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises 8 km west of the Mentzelberg at the eastern end of the Otto von Gruber Mountains in the Wohlthat massif .
This formation was discovered and named during the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar researcher Alfred Ritscher . It is named after Herbert Todt (1911–2003), secretary of this research trip.
