Toivo Asmer

Toivo Asmer (born January 8, 1947 in Oisu , today the Türi rural community , Järva County , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician and entrepreneur.

Life

Toivo Asmer graduated from the Tallinn College of Construction and Mechanical Engineering in 1965 . From 1965 to 1971 he worked as an engineer in various Soviet companies .

From 1974 to 1989 Asmer was a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU). In 1980 he joined the University of Marxism-Leninism of the Communist Party of Estonia from.

From 1971 to 1991 Asmer was a senior employee of the Estonian Agricultural Machinery Office ( Eesti Põllum-tehnika ) in Tallinn. He then founded his own company, which he managed from 1991 to 1999. The AS Asmer car sales mainly Western European and Asian cars in Estonia.

In 1994 Toivo Asmer joined the liberal Estonian Reform Party ( Eesti Reformierakond ). and was a member of the Executive Board from 1995 to 2001. In 1999, Asmer was elected to the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ).

From March 1999 to January 2002, Asmer was Regional Minister of the Republic of Estonia in Prime Minister Mart Laar's cabinet . From January 2002 to April 2003 he held the same office in the cabinet of Prime Minister Siim Kallas .

From 2003 to 2005 Asmer was a member of the supervisory board of the state lottery company Eesti Loto .

Athletic career

Toivo Asmer has been active in motorsport since 1963 . He was ten-time Estonian and six-time Soviet champion. From 1965 to 1971 he was involved in motorcycle racing . From 1973 to 1992 he was active in motor racing .

Private life

Toivo Asmer has been married three times and has five children. One son is the Estonian racing driver Marko Asmer (* 1984).
