Tol & Tol

Tol & Tol is the name of a Dutch duo that mainly publishes instrumental music. Members are the brothers Cees and Thomas Tol from Volendam .

The music of Tol & Tol can largely be assigned to the paling sound , but it is also referred to as modern classical.

Formation history

The Tol brothers belonged to BZN (= band Zonder Naam ⇒ band without a name), the most successful Dutch pop group in the 1970s , since 1976 . Thomas Tol composed a total of 24 successful tracks for BZN, including the number 1 hits Mon Amour and Pearlydumm . He also writes lyrics for some songs. Cees Tol is a guitarist .

In 1988 the Tol brothers stopped working for BZN and started a career as a duo. Her most successful single title was Eleni in 1990 , which not only hit the charts in the Netherlands , Belgium and Germany , but also in many other countries such as the USA . The Dutch-based Greek singer Corina Vamvakari , granddaughter of Markos Vamvakaris and niece of Tol & Tol, served as a cooperation partner for this title, and she has also performed in numerous other titles (such as You Are My World or Take Me Home ) as well as in live performances Front woman contributed to the supporting voice. Helena Lind published the first German version of Eleni in 1990, writing her own text and producing it together with Pete Rico . Well-known German recordings ("Eleni was called the girl") were interpreted in 1993 by Andrea Jürgens and ("I still have a thousand dreams") in 1997 by Dana Winner .

By 2001, the Tol brothers released five albums, the first three each placed in the top 25 of the Dutch charts: Tol & Tol (1989, number 7), Sedalia (1991, number 18), Tol & Tol III (1993, 23rd place). The album Tol & Tol IV , released in 1999, only made it to number 65. Since 2002 the Tols have also been composing for the singer Jan Smit , who first became known in Germany under Jantje Smit . His title Als de nacht verdwijnt (“When the night faded”) became a big hit.
