During his term of office on April 6, 1872, after previous negotiations about the end of the civil war, the so-called Paz de Abril (April Peace) fell. With Tomás Gomensoro in Uruguay's northernmost department of Artigas , the former city of Zanja Honda was named after him eight years after his death .
