Dolores is a city in Uruguay .
geography
It is located in the Soriano Department in its sector 3 at an altitude of 30 m above sea level on the Río San Salvador near the border with Argentina and is the second largest city next to Mercedes , the capital of the Soriano Department . Dolores is of regional importance as a grain storage location.
Infrastructure
Characteristic for Dolores is the central arrangement according to the Spanish architectural style. Around the main square, the "Plaza de la Constitución", there is the Catholic Church , a public grammar school , the fire brigade and police buildings, as well as supermarkets and bars. As in almost all cities in Uruguay, all streets run parallel and cross perpendicularly. Rutas 96 and 21 are the most important streets in the city.
history
The city was established between 1754 and 1801. On November 26, 1923, Dolores was classified in the "Ciudad" category by Law No. 7.652. A detailed history can be found on the city's Spanish-language portal.
