Tomás Villalba Albín (born December 9, 1805 in Dolores , † July 12, 1886 Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan politician .
Villalba, who belonged to the Partido Nacional , was a follower of Manuel Oribe from his youth . So he accompanied him in the government "del Cerrito" and was appointed military commander of Soriano . In the following period he held both the political leadership and the position of police chief in the Department of Colonia , then in Soriano and finally in Cerro Largo . Between 1855 and 1858 he was in the financial administration Contador General de la Nación (Treasurer of the nation?). During the reign of Bernardo Prudencio Berro , he held the position of finance minister from 1860 to 1861. As a senator he sat in the 9th legislative period from April 24, 1863 for the Department Canelones in the Cámara de Senadores . There he initially took over the office of the first Senate Vice-President in 1864, only to take over the Senate presidency as the successor to Atanasio Cruz Aguirre in the following year . He then replaced the latter on February 16, 1865 in the state leadership and thus acted as interim president of Uruguay . A few days later, on February 20, 1865, he was replaced in this position by Venancio Flores .
