Tomás Pedro Barbosa da Silva Nunes (born December 3, 1942 in Lisbon ; † September 1, 2010 ibid) was a Portuguese theologian and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Lisbon .

Life

Tomás Pedro Barbosa da Silva Nunes first studied geophysics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Lisbon and theology at the Faculty of Theology at the Catholic University, later he completed a Master of Science in Education there , specializing in administration and school management. Barbosa da Silva Nunes was ordained a priest on November 4, 1973 and was incardinated in the Patriarchate of Lisbon . He became deputy head of the Lisbon Catholic Workers League (LOC) in 1977 and was chaplain of the Juventude Operária Católica (JOC) for nine years . From 1981 to 1998 he was employed in the diocesan management. In 1989 he became director of the Diocesan Secretariat for Religious Education . He taught religious studies at the Theological Faculty of the Catholic University of Portugal .

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Elvas in 1998 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in the Patriarchate of Lisbon. He was ordained bishop on May 17, 1998 in the Church of Our Lady of Fatima in Lisbon by the Archbishop and Patriarch of Lisbon, José da Cruz Policarpo ; Co-consecrators were Bishop Albino Mamede Cleto , coadjutor in Coimbra, and António dos Reis Rodrigues , auxiliary bishop emeritus in Lisbon.

Barbosa da Silva Nunes was a member of the Portuguese Bishops' Conference . 1999 was elected secretary of the Portuguese Bishops' Conference, re-elected in 2002. Since 2005 he has been vicar general and moderator of the Curia , member of the board of directors of social pastoral care in Portugal and president of the episcopal commission for Christian education.
