Tom Armstrong

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thomas "Tom" Armstrong (* 1898 in Preston , England , † 1967 ) was an English football - goalkeeper .

Armstrong played football in the army and then local football in Preston before joining Liverpool FC as an amateur in 1920 . With regard to the professional team, actually fourth goalkeeper behind Elisha Scott , Kenny Campbell and Howard Baker , fortunate circumstances helped him to play in the Football League First Division . For the away game on March 13, 1920 against The Wednesday Scott and Campbell were not available, both of whom were called up for the international game Scotland against Ireland and faced each other there, Baker, only amateur, was also not available for the game in Sheffield. Armstrong conceded two goals in Sheffield in the first half, both of which were classified by the press as a “gift” from the goalkeeper, but with two goals in the last ten minutes Liverpool drew 2-2.

At the end of the season he left Liverpool again and played as an amateur in the 1920/21 season at Preston North End , but remained without use in the Football League .
