Tom Koornwinder

Tom H. Koornwinder (born September 19, 1943 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch mathematician who deals with analysis .

Koornwinder studied at the University of Leiden with a diploma in 1968 and in 1975 at the University of Amsterdam with Hans Lauwerier doctorate (Jacobi polynomials and Their two-variable analogues). From 1968 to 1992 he was at the Mathematisch Centrum in Amsterdam and from 1992 to 2008 Professor of Analysis at the Korteweg-de-Vries Institute at the University of Amsterdam. 1997 to 2003 he was director of the institute.

Among other things, he was visiting scholar at the Mittag-Leffler Institute and the Isaac Newton Institute .

He deals with special functions , Lie groups , quantum groups and computer algebra and the connection between these areas. Special orthogonal polynomials are named after him.
