Levorstad, who started for Kråkstad IL, was part of the Norwegian national team for the newly created ski jumping world cup in 1979 and already competed in the first competition on November 30, 1979 in Oberstdorf . He landed on the 57th place when jumping on the large hill. In the following three competitions of the Four Hills Tournament 1979/80 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Innsbruck and Bischofshofen , he could not achieve any results worth mentioning. Only in the first World Cup after the tour in Thunder Bay was he able to jump to the top places for the first time with a 12th and a 5th place. 5th Place he repeated in the first competition in the French Saint-Nizier before he first jumped in there the second event with a 3rd place on the podium. This was also his only podium in a World Cup competition. Subsequently, however, he was able to achieve placements in the top 10 several times. At the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf in 1981 , Levorstad won the bronze medal behind Jari Puikkonen from Finland and Armin Kogler from Austria . Success was seldom seen after the World Cup. Several times he was eliminated after the first round. On the other hand, he was able to jump into the top 10 several times. At the Norwegian Championship in Eidsvoll in 1981 , he won the silver medal on the large hill behind Roger Ruud . Despite some good top 20 placements in the World Cup, Levorstad ended his active ski jumping career after the last competition of the 1981/82 World Cup season on March 7, 1982 in Lahti .
