Tom Oberheiden (born March 12, 1976 in Oberhausen ) is a former German swimmer and today's doctor.

Career

Oberheiden began swimming at PSV Oberhausen at the age of five . A short time later he began to compete in the city championships. From 1986 he trained with Günter Jatzek with a few breaks . In addition to the membership of the swimming club in Oberhausen, Oberheiden also started for SG Mülheim , DSC Jan Wellem Düsseldorf and SG Essen at the same time . Oberheiden achieved his greatest success in 1993 when he won the European Youth Championship in Istanbul . In 1996 he became North Rhine-Westphalia champion in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 0: 53.45 minutes. At the German Swimming Championships in Braunschweig in 1996 he won the title over 4 × 100 meters in a time of 3: 44.40 minutes with the SG Essen relay. In 1998 he became city champion in Mülheim over 400 meters freestyle. At the German Masters Championship in 1999 he won the 100 meter freestyle title in age group 20.

Oberheiden set the Mülheim city record a total of 17 times. In addition, he won the title of city champion eleven times in Mülheim.

During his active career, Oberheiden began studying medicine at the Essen University Hospital in 1996 and completed it in 2004 with the 3rd state examination after the practical year at the St. Josef Hospital in Oberhausen . In September 2004 he accepted a position as an assistant doctor at the University Medical Center Mannheim in the I. Medical Clinic with M. Borggrefe. The promotion was Oberheiden on 15 February 2005 in Essen . He did his doctorate on the treatment of extremely long coronary restenoses by means of brachytherapy in the pullback procedure with D. Baumgart.

Oberheiden's younger brother Nick is also active as a swimmer for SG Mülheim.
