Tom Rush (born February 8, 1941 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire ) is an American folk and blues singer , songwriter and recording artist. It had its greatest popularity in the 1960s and 1970s.

Life

His father was a teacher at St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire . Tom Rush himself majored in English at Harvard University . During this time he concentrated more on making music and began performing in 1961. The recordings of this period were largely versions of Scottish folk songs and folk songs from the Appalachian Mountains. He performed at Club 47 (now Club Passim ) in Cambridge, where musicians like Bob Dylan , Joan Baez , Shawn Colvin , Suzanne Vega and groups like The Lovin 'Spoonful started their careers, and at the “Unicorn” in Boston .

Rolling Stone magazine in particular gave him good reviews, calling him a songwriter who ushered in a new era. However, he had his greatest success with new recordings from hitherto unknown artists and thus helped artists such as Joni Mitchell , Jackson Browne and James Taylor to breakthrough.

His work No Regrets , produced in 1968, is one of the standard works of folk music and has often been covered or reinterpreted. The Walker Brothers came in 1975 with No Regrets in the top ten of the English singles charts, as did Midge Ure in 1982 with another cover version.
