Tom Wudl

Thomas (Tom) Wudl (* 1948 in Cochabamba , Bolivia ; lives in Los Angeles , California ) is an American contemporary painter and draftsman .

life and work

Tom Wudl immigrated to the USA in 1958 and settled in Los Angeles. He studied at the Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles from 1966 to 1970.

From 1975 to 1999 he taught art at various US universities, including the University of California, Irvine , Los Angeles and Santa Barbara , the Otis-Parsons School of Art and Design in Los Angeles and the California Institute of the Arts .

Tom Wudl had his first solo exhibitions in 1971 at the Eugenia Butler Gallery and the Mizuno Gallery in Los Angeles.

The span of his painterly work is wide. From abstract painting to a poetic, decorative approach to a new objectivity, it spans several decades of artistic development.

Tom Wudl participated in Documenta 5 in Kassel in 1972 in the Idea + Idea / Light department with some pictures . In 1973 he exhibited at the Biennale de Paris and in 1991 at " Individual Realities in the California Art Scene " at the Sezon Museum of Art in Tokyo . To this day he has exhibitions in major museums and galleries around the world.

His pictures are included in the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, the Museums of Contemporary Art in Chicago , San Diego , Los Angeles and other museums and collections worldwide.
