Tomaž Ogris

Tomaž Ogris (Thomas Ogris, born October 1, 1946 in Kossiach (Kozje), Carinthia , Altgemeinde Radsberg ) is a Carinthian-Slovenian pedagogue, cultural activist, publicist and editor of the publications Mladi rod and Rastje .

Live and act

After graduating from the federal high school for Slovenes in Klagenfurt / Carinthia (1965) and training at the teacher training institute in Klagenfurt, Ogris was a primary school teacher and then a secondary school teacher for history, German and Slovenian. He worked in several places in southern Carinthia. He later worked at the Pedagogical Academy as a professor for didactics and methodology of bilingual teaching (1983–1994). From 1995 to 2007 he was state school inspector for the bilingual school system and head of the minority school department at the state school board for Carinthia.

Between 1976 and 1991 he was editor of the magazine for students Mladi rod , from 1984 he was also chairman of the teachers' association of the same name. Between 1972 and 1984 he was Vice President, 1984–1990 President of the Slovenian Cultural Association (SPD) in Klagenfurt / Celovec. 1992 initiated the working group of Austrian ethnic groups in the SPÖ.

From 1989 to 1999 he was chairman of the Slovenian cultural association Radsberg / Radiše, where he has also been the editor and designer of the newsletter Naša vas / Our village since 1990 .

Journalistic activity

Ogris writes in German and Slovene and is the author of numerous texts about bilingual upbringing and education, about bilingualism and intercultural encounters in Carinthia, author of essays, a local monograph, of commemorative prose (e.g. with contemporary witness and mother Anisja Ogris, b . Denisjaka, a native Ukrainian). and editor of the Slovenian literary review Rastje

His Slovenian dialect book of cheerful village stories Vamprat in Hana vom Radsberg / Radiše, published in 2014, sets new standards and is just as interesting for local laypeople as it is relevant for linguists, dialectologists and ethnologists.
