Tomas Axnér (born November 30, 1969 in Spånga , Sweden ) is a Swedish handball coach and former handball player .

Career

Axnér initially played in his home country with Lödde, Wargo, Pölsemannen, H 43 Lund and LUGI HF . With LUGI he was in the final of the Swedish championship in 1996, but failed there because of Redbergslids IK Göteborg . In 1998 the right winger moved to the German Bundesliga club VfL Gummersbach . From 2000 the left-hander was under contract with league rivals GWD Minden . After five years in Minden, Axnér returned to his homeland, where he played for H 43 Lund until 2010. Axnér then ended his career and became an assistant trainer at LUGI HF. He later took over as a coach from Lugi HF. In January 2012 he made a short comeback at the Allsvenskan club Trelleborg HBK during the European Championship break . After the 2013/14 season, Axnér ended his coaching work at Lugi HF. In February 2015, he returned to the Lugi sidelines. In the summer of 2020, Axnér left his job at Lugi and took over as coach of the Swedish women's national team .

Axnér took part in the HBL All-Star Game in 2000 and 2002 . In the Bundesliga season 2002/03 he finished 6th in the scorers list. Axnér never played an international match for the Swedish national team in his career .

His daughter Tyra Axnér also plays handball.
