HBL All-Star Game
In the All-Star-Game of the German Handball Bundesliga ( HBL ), an international HBL team has been playing against the German national handball team since 2005 .
The idea for a handball all-star game based on the American model emerged at the beginning of 2000, with two internal selection teams (north-east versus south-west) initially competing against each other. The first three editions have taken place in Münster , Westphalia, since 2000 and received such a great response that they moved to the Volkswagen hall in Braunschweig . From 2006 to 2010 the All-Star-Game was played in the Max-Schmeling-Halle in Berlin to make handball better known there. In 2011 there were two innovations: The event was moved from the end of the season to the time after the World Cup or European Championship and it was now held in the Arena Leipzig .
On the fringes of the event, the “Player of the Season”, the best young player as “Rookie of the Season”, the “Coach of the Season”, the “Referee Team of the Season” and two personalities were honored for their “life's work / career achievement handball”. Currently there are still the awards for the player, the goalkeeper and the coach of the season, but after the move forward they will no longer be awarded during the game.
In 2020 the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
