HBL All-Star Game 2020
The HBL All-Star Game 2020 was the 21st edition of this event for May 16, 2020 in the ZAG-Arena in Hanover . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , it was canceled on April 21, 2020 as an additional measure of a membership decision of the HBL, which resulted in the cancellation of the two highest German leagues of the 2019/20 season.
An HBL selection should compete against the German national team.
Choice of the HBL world selection
The composition of the HBL selection (21 players and two coaches) was already determined at the time of the cancellation, as this was chosen up to and including March 10, 2020. Initially, the league's 18 team captains nominated 42 players (six for each playing position) and six coaches who were available for election. The Latvian Dainis Krištopāns only became a player in the handball league when the captain was chosen - but before the voting phase began - when he moved from Vardar Skopje to Füchsen Berlin . He was then given an additional place ( "wildcard" ). This increased the number of nominees to seven players in the right backcourt category.
The nominated coach Velimir Petković was dismissed shortly after the start of the voting phase at Füchsen Berlin.
The public voting phase ran from February 25 to March 10, 2020 and was only possible online. In addition to a coach, two players were identified for each position. Then the votes of the 18 coaches were evaluated. The best placed - not already elected to the team by the public - in each position received another place. Thus, in the end, 21 of the 43 nominated players were elected to the All-Star Team. There were also two coaches.
