To (m) maso Benvenuti (born February 4, 1838 in Cavarzere , † February 26, 1906 in Rome ) was an Italian composer .

Little is known about Benvenuti's life and musical training. Apparently he was largely a musical self-taught, it is believed that he had composition lessons with Antonio Buzzolla in Venice. A youth work was Inno a Pio IX based on songs from Dante's Divine Comedy . At the age of eighteen he composed the opera Valenzia Candiani for the Teatro Sociale in Mantua , the premiere of which was canceled due to problems at the dress rehearsal. His second opera, Adriana Lecouvreur , was performed the following year with moderate success at the Teatro alla Canobbiana in Milan.

Benvenuti was able to prevail with the opera Guglielmo Shakespeare , which premiered in Parma in 1861. Stella di Toledo was to be played at the Teatro alla Scala after its premiere at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa (1864) ; However, the opera Le aquile romane by the French composer Hippolyte Chelard was preferred, the performance of which ended in disaster.

Benvenuti then intended to end his career as an opera composer and only presented his next stage work with Il falconiere (premiered in 1878 at the Teatro Rossini in Venice). Beatrice di Svevia was premiered at the Teatro la Fenice in 1890 , followed by Le Baruffe Chiozzotte in 1895 . His last opera Tre milioni remained unplayed. In addition, Benvenuti also composed chamber music works, including numerous songs.
