Tomaso Cecchino
Tomaso Cecchino (* around 1583 in Soave ; † August 31, 1644 in Hvar ) was an Italian composer . He attended the Scuola degli Accoliti in Verona and went to Dalmatia in 1603 , where he was temporarily conductor of the cathedral in Split . He held this position until 1607 and then again from 1613, probably at the instigation of Bishop Markantun de Dominis . In 1614 he left Split and worked as the cathedral music director in Hvar until the end of his life .
Cecchino contributed significantly to the spread of the monodic style in Dalmatia. His works also received attention in Central Europe, Michael Praetorius mentions him in his Syntagma musicum .
