Tomasz Bagiński
Tomasz Bagiński (born January 10, 1976 in Białystok , Poland ) is a Polish animator, illustrator, film director and producer.
Life
Bagiński studied architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology , but dropped out prematurely after four years. He had already experimented with computer animation in childhood and adolescence and taught himself his skills. While studying architecture, he completed his first film, Deszcz , which was released in 1997 and won the YoungElectronicsArts 3D Graphics competition. In the same year he joined the CGI studio Platige Image in Warsaw. He subsequently directed numerous commercials, but was also responsible for the trailers for computer games, including The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings . In 2019 he was involved as executive producer on the television series The Witcher .
In 2002 his computer-animated short film Katedra was released, after Deszcz his second film directing work and the first with Platige Image. Katedra was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Animated Short Film in 2003 . Other short animated films by Bagiński were also internationally successful: Sztuka spadania won a BAFTA in 2006 , while Cinematograf was shown in the competition for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival . Bagiński also made films for the international promotion of Poland. The Polish film for the Expo 2010 in Shanghai Animowana historia Polski , which animated the history of Poland, was shot by him. His short film at the beginning of Poland's six-month EU Council Presidency caused controversy in 2011 . In the film a man (Poland) and a woman (Europe) dance the tango. In one scene the woman's necklace is missing. The simple animation error led to harsh reactions, as it was interpreted that Poland was responsible for the theft.
