Tommaso de Vigilia

Tommaso de Vigilia (active 1444–1497 in Palermo ) was an Italian painter of the early Renaissance in Sicily .

life and work

Nothing is known about his training. From 1444 he was active in Palermo, his studio is documented from 1451 in the Seralcadi quarter (today Capo). His earliest documented work is the panel painting "Writing Johannes Evangelist ", signed by him and dated 1460 , which is now in the possession of the Palazzo Abatellis . Vigilia has been identified as a collaborator of the master of the famous “ Triumph of Deathfresco in the Palazzo Abatellis.

Many of his works have been lost, including the triptych called "Enthroned Madonna with Saints Agathe, Lucia, Joseph and Caloger" from 1486, as well as his "Temple Passage of Mary" for the high altar of the Cathedral of Palermo .
