Tommy Westlund (born December 29, 1974 in Fors ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League from 1992 to 2004 .

Career

Tommy Westlund began his career as a hockey player at Avesta BK , for whose professional team he was active from 1992 to 1995 in Division 1, which was still second at the time. He then received a contract with Brynäs IF , for which he played in the Elitserien for the following three years . After winger was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1998 as the 93rd player overall by the Carolina Hurricanes , he joined them and spent four seasons for the team from Raleigh , North Carolina , in the National Hockey League .

With the Hurricanes, the Swede failed in the 2001/02 season only in the final of the Stanley Cup at the Detroit Red Wings . The 1998 world champion completed most of the 2002/03 season in the American League's Beast of New Haven , the Hurricanes ' farm team . Westlund ended his career after the 2003/04 season , which he had spent in the Elitserien at Leksands IF , at the age of 30.

International

For Sweden Westlund took part in the 1998 World Cup, where he and his team became world champions.
