Tomoyuki Kawabata (born February 7, 1985 ) is a Japanese cyclist.

Athletic career

In 2012 Tomoyuki Kawabata became three-time Japanese champion, in the sprint , keirin and with Kenta Inake and Takashi Sakamoto in the team sprint . At the Asian Games in 2014 he won a silver medal in the sprint and, together with Seiichirō Nakagawa and Kazunari Watanabe, bronze in the team sprint. In 2015 he was Asian champion in the sprint. At the Asian Championships in 2017 he again won silver in the sprint and bronze in the team sprint (with Kazunari Watanabe and Kazuki Amagai ).

At the 2018 UCI Track World Championships , Kawabata won the silver medal in the Keirin. After Toshimasa Yoshioka in 1993, he was the first Japanese to win a World Cup medal in this Japanese discipline. The multiple sprint world champion Kōichi Nakano announced at a press conference that Kawabata would receive a cash prize of the equivalent of 35,000 euros from the JKA Foundation for this medal .
