Antonio Santos Varela Monteiro (born June 13, 1986 in Santa Catarina ) is a Cape Verdean football player .
Career
society
Varela started his career in the Netherlands with RKC Waalwijk . He made his professional debut in August 2007 in the Jupiler League . With Waalwijk he was promoted to the Eredivisie in 2009 . After only one season, Waalwijk had to relegate back to the second division. After he had made direct resurgence with Waalwijk in 2011, he moved to the second division Sparta Rotterdam . In the summer of 2013 he left Sparta. After several months without a club, he joined FC Dordrecht in November 2013 . However, after only two months he left this again and switched to the Greek first division club Levadiakos . In the summer of 2014 he returned to the Netherlands, where he joined the first division club Excelsior Rotterdam . In the summer of 2015 he moved to Al-Jahra in Kuwait . In February 2016 he returned to FC Dordrecht.
For the 2016/17 season he moved to the Austrian second division club SV Horn , with whom he received a contract valid until June 2018.
National team
Varela was appointed to the Cape Verdean national team for the first time in 2010 . He made his international debut in May 2010 in a friendly against Portugal .
