The Tonsee is a body of water in the municipality of Groß Köris in the Dahme-Spreewald district of Brandenburg .
Location and access
The inflow and outflowless lake is located southeast of the community center in a forest area. To the northeast of the lake is the Klein Köris district and the Löpten district to the south . The water can be reached from the east via the Am Hang path via a campsite and another path to the south, which, as an extension of the Am Tann path, also leads to the lake from the east. The Tonsee is part of the Dahme-Heideseen nature park .
expansion
The body of water is around nine hectares, has a maximum depth of 19 meters and an average depth of 8.8 meters. This corresponds to a lake volume of 0.8 million m³. The lake consists of two sections that are connected to each other. In the northern part it is approximately circular; in the southern part almost rectangular.
history
The unusual shape is related to the origin of the body of water, which, in contrast to the Teupitz bodies of water to the north, is not of natural origin: at the end of the 19th century, the residents of Klein Köris convinced the Jewish entrepreneur Goldschmidt to build a brick factory in the village . They previously dug wells into which they placed clay from Töpchin . They wanted to simulate a large clay deposit in the region. The factory was built and from 1889 to 1922 produced up to 42 million masonry bricks annually , which were preferably transported to Berlin via the Teupitz waters . After the factory closed, the up to 40 meter deep pit was filled by escaping spring water. In the 21st century, only one elevation of the mining can be seen, which extends as a wooded slope in a northeastern direction to the mountain road .
The lake is mainly used for tourism. There are two campsites to the east and south. A study by the Ministry of Justice and for Europe and Consumer Protection of the State of Brandenburg showed in 2017 that the bathing water quality was " microbiologically unobjectionable". The depth of view was two meters at the time of the measurement.
