Tony! Toni! Toné!

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tony! Toni! Toné! was an American R&B band from Oakland , California . The band was founded in the mid-1980s by the brothers D'wayne Wiggins and Raphael Saadiq and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley.

Career

Tony! Toni! Toné! combined contemporary R&B rhythms with soul music and generally appeared as a band at concerts. In 1988, Who? released their debut album. The single Little Walter reached number 1 on the R&B charts. In 1990 the platinum album The Revival was released and delivered four No. 1 hits in the American R&B charts. In 1993, the band increased their sales success with their third album, Sons of Soul - the album sold over two million times in the USA alone and received a Grammy nomination. In 1996, House of Music was their fourth and so far last studio album. In 1997 the band broke up.

D'wayne Wiggins then worked for some time in the music industry as an A&R manager, including Destiny's Child, her breakthrough record deal with Columbia Records , and released a solo album in 2000. Saadiq released his solo album in 2001 and in the meantime had become one of the most successful and sought-after producers in the R&B sector ( Neo Soul style ). He won several Grammys.

2004 worked Tony! Toni! Toné! on the album The Diary of Alicia Keys with the song Diary . D'wayne played guitar and Timothy Riley played drums. The single is the biggest crossover hit for Tony with number 6 on the general Billboard charts! Toni! Toné.

In 2006 the personal differences of the three founders had subsided and they went on a small tour together for the first time in years.
