Tony Ferrino Baker (born June 11, 1964 in High Point , North Carolina ) is a retired American football player. He played in the running back position for the Frankfurt Galaxy and the Cleveland Browns, among others .

Career

Baker played college football at East Carolina University in Greenville , North Carolina and was committed in 1986 in the 10th round to 252nd place in the 1986 NFL Draft by the NFL team of the Atlanta Falcons . In 1987, he moved to the Cleveland Browns for two years before joining the Phoenix Cardinals in 1989 . He received little time in all teams. At the Cardinals he was increasingly used as a kick-off returnurner. The decision to collect match practice in the World League of American Football was an obvious one for Baker.

In 1991 Baker moved to Europe and played with the shirt number 33 for the Frankfurt Galaxy team in the then newly founded World League of American Football. The league was founded by the NFL to introduce young talents or players who had not yet made their breakthrough in the NFL to professional football. Baker became the Frankfurt team's first superstar. In his first season he ran 648 yards and caught balls for a space gain of 423 yards. In total, he scored six touchdowns that season. In 1992 he added three touchdowns, but found no new club after this season. The World League of American Football had temporarily suspended its game operations. After seven years as a professional, Baker ended his career.

He received various nicknames from fans of the Galaxy : "Tony Baker, The Touchdownmaker or Touchdown Tony" .
