Tony Castillo (* 1946 ; † December 13, 2010 in Singapore as Antonio Castillo Jr. ) was a Singaporean child actor , later a jazz trumpeter , band leader and music official who was active in the Singapore jazz scene.

Tony Castillo was the eldest child of three siblings; his brother Louis is also a musician and singer. He first became known in the Far East as a child star when he played the lead role in P. Ramlee's Malaysian film Anakku Sazali ( My Son Sazali ) in 1956 . The role brought him the award for best male leading role and best child actor ( Actor award ) at the fourth Asia Film Festival in Tokyo in 1957 . As a teenager he performed as a jazz trumpeter in his hometown and at the age of 14 went on tour in the Far East, during which he had a two-month engagement in a Melbourne club.

Louis Armstrong heard the young Castillo, called him Boy Satchmo and arranged for him to appear in the USA on the Ed Sullivan Show . In the 1970s he played mostly in Singapore nightclubs such as The Tropicana and the Jockey Pub . He then led his own big band , The Castillians , with whom he also performed several times in Europe and the United States.

He was embroiled in a sex scandal in the 1970s when he was accused of having sex with a minor; however, he was acquitted. He fled Singapore after being charged with drug possession but surrendered four years later. He then spent two years in a drug rehab center .

In addition to his musician activities, Castillo was a patron of the Singapore music scene since the 1970s; initially as chairman of the Young Musicians' Society . In the 1980s he served on the board of the Musicians and Singers Association of Singapore (MSAS). In the 1980s and 1990s he continued to perform with The Castillians in the well-known venues of Singapore, and in the early 1980s at the Singapore International Jazz Festival. From 2004 to 2008 he worked as a musician and band leader in North Carolina and Los Angeles. Upon his return he founded the Singapore Jazzistic Society , which took care of training programs for young musicians and actors. Castillo died of liver cancer in late 2010 .
