Tony Garnier (musician)
Tony Garnier (born August 18, 1956 in Saint Paul , Minnesota ) is an American bass player (both double bass and bass guitar). Garnier is best known as touring and studio musician Bob Dylans , with whom he has played since 1989. He is Dylan's longest companion on the Never Ending Tour and is sometimes characterized as its music director . In addition to his work with Dylan, Garnier has worked with Tom Waits , Loudon Wainwright III , Paul Simon , Marc Ribot and Eric Andersen and was a member of Asleep at the Wheel (1971-78) and The Lounge Lizards . He also played for David Johansen on his Buster Poindexter project for a long time . He starred in Bob Dylan's 2003 film Masked and Anonymous . In fact, Garnier's work with Dylan dates back to at least 1975 with the production of Renaldo and Clara . In 2008 Garnier played on Michelle Branch's EP Everything Comes and Goes , which was released in July 2010. He can also be heard on albums by Jenny Scheinman , Paul Simon, Daniel Lanois and with Asleep at the Wheel .
