Anthony Michael "Tony" Kane (born August 29, 1987 in Belfast ) is a Northern Irish football player . He is also an Irish citizen .
Player career
society
Tony Kane joined Blackburn Rovers in 2004 as a youth player , where he played an important role in the U19 and reserve team in his first two years. From 2006 to 2009 he was in the squad of the professional team, but did not play a competitive game.
In 2006 he was on short loan to Stockport County . In spring 2007, Kane drew attention to himself with strong performances as a loan player at the Belgian first division club Cercle Brugge and was named "Man of the Match" by his own fans in his first game.
Further loans to Stockport County and Carlisle United followed , before the latter club signed him firmly in 2009. But here, too, an interim loan to Darlington FC followed . He was then briefly transferred to Cliftonville FC and since summer 2011 he has played for Ballymena United . Here he won the Northern Irish League Cup in 2017 with a 2-0 victory in the final over the Carrick Rangers in Belfast .
National team
Tony Kane played for the Northern Ireland U18 and U19 national teams before he decided in early 2007 that he wanted to play for Ireland in the U21. There he was used in two friendly matches. Since the end of the same year he played again for the Northern Ireland U21s and played five games there.
