Anthony Lee "Tony" Ross (born August 10, 1938 in London ) is a British author and draftsman , best known for his picture books .

Life

After studying art in Liverpool, where he was also teaching, Ross initially worked as a cartoonist and graphic artist. Tony Ross has been painting picture books since 1983. He now lives in Cheshire , on the border with Wales.

Works

Since 1986 Ross has been working on the picture book series Little Princess , which has been adapted as an animated series for television under the same title since 2006 . More of his children's books are I'll come and get you! (1986), Finally Grown Up! Or: Polly's problem with life planning (1993) and Nicky or: Josephine's first day of school (1997). He also works as an illustrator for foreign authors, including the Miss Wiss series by Terence Blacker and the Dr. Xargle books by Jeanne Willis . For Francesca Simon he illustrated the children's book series Henry the Terrible , which, in addition to 18 million book copies (as of 2013) sold, was also marketed in film series.
